Machine learning is mainly concerned with methods enabling computer to extract rules and patterns out of massive datasets, which is a bottom-up approach. In the framework of situated perception, our approach is neither bottom-up nor top-down as traditional artificial intelligence would be. IMS is mainly involved in research on bio-inspired machine learning methods. More precisely the domains of cortical modeling, reinforcement learning and Bayesian methods are under focus.
